EVANGELINE SIMPSON (HMP/YOI Chelmsford)

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Evey is Commended for her outstanding contribution to safer custody, as Head of HMP/YOI Chelmsford’s Safety Department, and in particular for her compassionate and tireless support for staff around deaths in custody, from the original incident, through to the Coroner’s inquest and beyond.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Described as “a remarkable member of staff”, and by one prisoner as simply “ace”, Officer Keith’s Commendation is for his “phenomenal” resettlement work at HMP/YOI Hatfield, more than doubling prisoners in paid outside work, and achieving record levels of employment back in the community.

ANDREW BLACKMORE (HMP & YOI Woodhill)

AWARD WINNER 2021-22: Andrew wins an Award, as an Officer at HMP/YOI Woodhill, for his diligence, decency, and unwavering positivity; for his outstanding de-escalation skills with prisoners, and support and encouragement of colleagues; and for producing a guide for new staff which is now being taken up elsewhere. AWARD WINNER 2021-22: Already regarded as an “inspirational” manager of HMP Edinburgh’s Visitors’ Centre, Shona’s Award is for the remarkable outreach service she put in place to support vulnerable families, including food parcels, home visits, and welfare checks, when prison visits, and many social care services, were closed by Covid.
