AWARD WINNER 2022-23: Prison Officer Paige’s Award is for her remarkable skill, compassion, and empathy in her work on HMP/YOI Elmley’s In-patient unit – “far in advance” of what would normally be expected – helping to manage and care for men with particularly challenging and complex needs. [Her Award is supported by Sodexo – Government.]

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Dawn is Commended as a Workshop Instructor at HMP/YOI Aylesbury, where she runs the team doing the prison’s laundry. Held in high regard by prisoners and colleagues alike, her Governor says “if I had a prison full of Dawns, life would be better and easier for everyone”.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Chris receives a Commendation for his outstanding commitment to excellence and rehabilitation in his work as the Land Based Activities and Farms Manager at HMP/YOI East Sutton Park, transforming both the prison grounds and the lives of the women in his care.

COMMENDEES 2022-23: Described as “true unsung heroes”, brothers Henry and William are granted a Commendation for their “tireless” contribution, over many years, as Specialist Instructors at HMP Bullingdon, teaching vocational skills to the prisoners, while improving the environment for all.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Charlyann is a Senior Officer at HMP/YOI Bronzefield. Described as “second to none”, she receives a Commendation for her outstanding leadership on the prison’s 15-bed ‘trauma-informed’ healthcare unit, which houses some of the most complex and vulnerable women in the system.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Stephen, a Prison Officer at HMP Buckley Hall, is Commended for his work supporting vulnerable people, both in the prison and in the wider community, through his deep-seated humanity, exceptional people skills, and an absolute determination to make a difference wherever he can.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Nominated by a prisoner, praised widely across the establishment, and described by the Governor as “this wonderful team”, Nicki, Ann, and Helen receive a Commendation for their truly outstanding work, both individually and collectively, in the Children and Families Department at HMP Hewell.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Described by the prisoner who nominated him as “the most caring Officer I’ve had the privilege to meet”, and widely respected by both prisoners and his peers, Prison Officer Nigel is Commended for the unwavering kindness and support he offers the men throughout HMP Kirklevington Grange.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Julie is granted a Commendation as “a popular and effective Prison Chaplain” at HMP/YOI Grampian, for the “enormous sense of care and compassion” she brings to the role, and in particular for her support for prisoners with mental health and addiction issues.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Described by prisoners as “a real inspiration”, “the hardest worker I’ve ever seen”, and “a prime example of what a man should be”, Keith receives his Commendation for his work and “exceptional leadership”, as a Band 4 Officer on HMP Grendon’s TC+ unit for people with learning disabilities.

COMMENDEE 2022-23: Colin receives a Commendation as an Officer and role model at HMP Edinburgh for over 30 years, promoting recovery, family support, and rehabilitation, and leading the annual Christmas Gifts scheme for prisoners’ children. To his Governor, “people like Colin are a dream in any workplace”.
