AWARD WINNER 2015-16: Neil is a civilian librarian at HMP Thameside. Nominated by prisoners, and described by a colleague as “our library superstar”, Neil wins his Award for the outstanding dedication, skill and creativity he has shown in transforming the prison’s library into a dynamic learning and resource centre, much valued by prisoners and staff, and described as “the envy of other prisons”. [This Award is sponsored by Novus (The Manchester College Group).]

AWARD WINNER 2015-16: Kerensa, a Senior Psychologist, is Clinical Lead for the Sex Offender Treatment Programme at HMP Whatton. Described as “one of the most inspirational people I’ve had the pleasure to work with”, she receives an Award for her exceptional work in all aspects of her job, and in particular for her role in developing interventions for sex offenders with an intellectual disability. [This Award is sponsored by Sodexo Justice Services.]

AWARD WINNER 2015-16: Peter, a Prison Officer at HMP Full Sutton, was nominated by more than 60 prisoners. Described as “an outstanding, inspirational and exemplary member of staff” by one of his nominators, and a “role model” by his Governor, Peter receives an Award for his exceptional skill and dedication in every aspect of his role, over more than 25 years. [This Award is sponsored by the Prison Officers Association.]

AWARD WINNER 2015-16: Sarah is a Prison Custody Officer at HMP/YOI Bronzefield. Nominated by a number of prisoners, and described in her nomination as “an incredible woman”, who “really cares”, and for whom “it’s a vocation not a job”, Sarah is granted an Award for the outstanding passion, sensitivity and creativity she shows in her management and support of the women in her care. [This Award is sponsored by MTCnovo.]

AWARD WINNER 2015-16: Bob is the Land Based Activities Manager at HMP/YOI Thorn Cross. He wins an Award for his passionate, creative and inspirational approach to the job, and his role in not only dramatically improving the prison’s physical landscape, but also transforming its farms and gardens into an immersive education and skills training environment for an often hard-to-reach group of prisoners. [Bob also receives the Keith Bromley Award for Education & Skills Training.]

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Sharon is a National Careers Service advisor working at HMP/YOI Hatfield, and is granted a Commendation for the dedication and passion she brings to all aspects of her work.

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Jeffrey receives a Commendation for his work as a Braille Instructor at HMP Garth, over more than a decade, for which he has earned acclaim both nationally and internationally.

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Fatima, an Officer & Therapeutic Community Specialist at HMP Grendon, is Commended after being nominated by five prisoners for the dedication and caring approach she demonstrates in her role.

COMMENDEES 2015-16: Chris, David, Chris and Matthew, who together comprise the gym team at HMP/YOI Parc, are Commended for their contribution both to the health and wellbeing of prisoners, and to the wider prison regime.

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Lynda, Learning & Skills Manager at HMP Durham, is Commended for setting up the ‘Judge & Barista’ coffee shop, which is open to staff and the public, and provides jobs to local unemployed people, including former offenders.

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Paul is a Residential Officer at HMP Castle Huntly who was nominated by a prisoner and receives a Commendation for his role in developing support for veterans in the prison.

COMMENDEE 2015-16: Phil is the Community Inclusion Manager (and Arts & Community Lead) at HMP/YOI Parc and is Commended for his work in promoting a more inclusive LGBT environment in the prison and across the sector.
