Darren Molloy, Prison Custody Officer at Bronzefield, has also been commended, for ‘dedication and skill in the management and care of vulnerable female prisoners’. Darren has worked diligently to help both women with behavioural issues and more vulnerable prisoners, particularly those struggling with issues like self-harm – saving their lives, according to one colleague, on at least four occasions. Much of his focus is on helping the women readjust to society on release, and many colleagues have described him as their ‘role model to be a better officer,’ praising the calm and professional manner in which he deescalates potentially problematic situations.

‘Darren is the first person in a [professional/authority] role that I have been able to trust and engage with,’ said one prisoner. ‘He invested time and effort in me when everybody else had written me off, and this alone gave me the sense of self-worth I needed to make positive changes to myself and my life.’

Another commented that Darren ‘believed in me, which encouraged me to believe in myself. Of all the people I have met in my life, Darren is the most inspirational.’
